Shivantha

‘What is one’s purpose in life? Do we ever find Clarity?

How do we celebrate our similarities as human beings and not denigrate each other or highlight our differences?’

Shivantha is a singer, songwriter and actor hailing from the little island of Sri Lanka, the teardrop of the Indian ocean. 

Born in the UK, he lived in Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Italy and Australia for much of his youth and grew up a child of the world.

The piano became his friend at 8, and he picked up the guitar at 15.‘My baptism in music came when I was 16; I was invited to play percussion with the Colombo Philharmonic Orchestra’ he cites as the catalyst that set him on his musical path.

‘I tried to surround myself with great musicians, who were older than me, better than me and had more life experience than I had’.

In 2009 he moved to New York City, and he released his first album Words From Not Long Ago in 2014. He wrote all the songs, handled all the vocals, backing vocals, acoustic, electric, rhythm and lead guitars, some of the bass and wrote all the string sections on the album.

In 2017, he recorded Clarity with Kyle Cassel and Walter Parks (Richie Havens), at the world famous Kaleidoscope Studios. The album was mastered at G&J Audio (Norah Jones, John Coltrane, Sex Pistols, Aretha Franklin). Clarity was mixed down on TAPE to get that warm, rich sound that you only find on old recordings…

His song ‘Fallen into You’ reached number #5 on The Most Requested Songs for the Year in Sri Lanka in 2005.

The symbol 'ශි’ is the first 3 letters of his name in Sinhala, which is the language he speaks in Sri Lanka.
